With the flu season poised to be bad this year, the American Red Cross is urging you to donate blood now, so they have enough to go around later.
The Red Cross is anticipating blood donation to decrease as flu cases increase.
The organization wants to make sure they have enough blood stocked up to meet demand.
There is especially a need for O-negative-type blood since only about 7-percent of the population is O-negative.
But people who are O-negative are also called universal donors because O-neg blood can be used in emergency transfusions for people doctors don’t know a blood type for.
