Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC Partners with Mainstream Fiber Networks to Expand Rural Broadband Access

internet

The Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC and Mainstream Fiber Networks have entered a partnership the utility calls the largest fiber project in the electric cooperative’s service territory.

As part of that partnership, Mainstream will focus on establishing broadband connections to unserved and underserved areas within UDWI’s service area, specifically taking a county-wide approach.

According to Mainstream, construction could begin as early as the second quarter of 2024 and take about five years to complete.

UDWI REMC is located in Bloomfield and serves nearly 16,000 members in Clay, Daviess, Greene, Knox, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Owen, Putnam, Sullivan and Vigo counties.
