strike

Pension issues are at the heart of a strike against Gemtron in Vincennes.

International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Workers struck Wednesday morning across Chestnut Avenue from the plant’s entrance.

In a written statement to Terre Haute’s WTWO, company officials say they respect the union’s right to strike and will bargain in good faith.

However, union members don’t share that same opinion, saying the company is eliminating their pensions.

The union represents about around 30 to 35 workers at the Gemtron facility.

Despite the strike, other Gemtron workers continued to show up for work as normal.
