Local officials from Texas to Maine are getting ready for heavy traffic due to Monday’s solar eclipse.
The Federal Highway Administration estimates that up to five million people will be traveling to parts of the eastern and Central U.S. to see the rare celestial event.
Eight major U.S. cities are within a three-hour drive of the “path of totality,” where the moon will totally eclipse the sun.
To avoid the congestion, officials recommend travelers leave for their trips earlier, and stay at their destinations a bit longer.
