Illinois State Senator Steve Stadelman has introduced a pair of bills he says will help support local journalism in Illinois.
Stadelman — a former television journalist in Rockford — says one of his proposals would require companies such as Facebook to pay local media for the use of their news content.
The other proposal would encourage local news outlets to hire more staff and for local businesses to advertise more with local media.
Stadelman says he’s working to bring his bills to a committee before they can be sent to the full chamber.
