A suspect in a Lawrence County murder investigation shot himself Saturday afternoon during a standoff with police at a Paoli gas station.

38-year-old Casey Brown of Fort Ritner shot himself while refusing law enforcement demands to get out of the vehicle he was a passenger in.

Brown was later flown to a Louisville hospital.

Brown is in police custody at the hospital for the offenses of murder and attempted murder.

Meanwhile, the driver, identified as 39-year-old Bradley Harper Jr of Bedford, surrendered, and was taken into custody without incident.

He was taken back to Lawrence County for questioning.

Deputies found 21-year-old Kobe Stancombe of Bedford dead early Saturday morning at a location in the 4000 block of Fort Ritner Road.

The investigation is continuing, but preliminary information shows that Brown, Harper, Stancombe, and a female knew each other and were all together in a Jeep when the shooting occurred.

In addition to Stancombe being shot, it is believed that multiple shots were fired at the female as she fled from the vehicle.
