Three Area Arts Groups Receive Grants from Arts Midwest

Three Arts Groups in the area announced Thursday received grants from Arts Midwest, in association with the Indiana Arts Commission.

 

Clay Community Schools received $3,000 so a musician can travel to Brazil and work with choral students.

The Mitchell Opera House received a grant of $3,000. Musician Mark Wills will be presenting a public concert at the facility. The Mercury Nashville recording artist has been to the Mitchell Opera House in the past and when there has made sure every fan that wanted to engage with him had the opportunity to do so. Wills is known for the songs 19 something and Wish You Were Here plus a cover of Brian McKnight’s Hit, Back at One.

Finally, the Southwest School Corporation in Sullivan County received a grant of $3,000. The school will `use the grant to bring in the IU Singers Director and Choreographer as well as an opportunity to provide cross curricular teaching of music and American Sign Language.

Overall, 10 groups throughout the state received grants totally $29,225. The grant money came from the Rural Indiana Performance Fund.
