Indiana Participating in Buckle Up Phone Down Day Today

Today is Buckle Up Phone Down Day, and Governor Mike Braun, INDOT and Indiana State Police are urging Hoosiers to do both, whether they’re driving or riding.

Just over 800 people died on Indiana roads last year. INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist says wearing a seatbelt and avoiding distractions like cell phones are two easy choices that make a big difference.

Since 2021, most fatal crashes in Indiana have involved someone who wasn’t buckled up.

State Police say troopers are enforcing seatbelt and hands-free laws to save lives, not to write tickets.

Indiana is one of more than 35 states taking part.
