A proposed nuclear power project could be coming to Sullivan County, Indiana.
American Electric Power announced a joint development agreement with X-energy to study building a 960-megawatt advanced nuclear facility at the former Breed Generating Station site.
Amazon is helping fund development work.
The project would use 12 of X-energy’s small modular reactors, each producing 80 megawatts.
Amazon plans to buy the power under a long-term contract and cover the costs of the facility and its operations.
The companies stress that no final investment decision has been made.
AEP says it will work closely with local leaders, residents and regulators as the project develops.
