Indiana Supreme Court Looking at Religious Exemptions to Abortion Ban

The Indiana Supreme Court is considering religious exemptions to the state’s near-total abortion ban.

The Indiana Attorney General’s Office argues the challenge is premature because the women are neither pregnant nor seeking abortions.

In March, Marion Superior Court Judge Christina Klineman barred enforcement against two anonymous women, finding that denying an abortion would substantially burden their religious exercise.

The case centers on the 2022 abortion ban and the 2015 Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which limits when government may substantially burden religious exercise.
