As Many As 300,000 Hoosiers Face Medicaid Work Requirement

State officials say as many as 300-thousand people might face Medicaid work requirements when they take effect January 1st.

Family and Social Services Administration secretary Mitch Roob says the figure between 200-thousand and 300-thousand is a “guesstimate” and FSSA does not know yet how many adults will qualify for an exemption.

People applying for or renewing Medicaid coverage at the start of January will have to document 80-hours of work, school, volunteer activity, or job training in each of the three preceding months of October through December.

Roob says people who are caregivers of disabled children older than 14 will not face the work requirement.
