The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says it has received several calls about a scam in which the victim gets a phone call with a local bank showing up on the caller ID.
The victim is told someone was trying to hack their card and asks them how much money they have in their account.
They also send a code to the victim’s phone and when the caller replies with that code, the caller gets control of the account and takes all the money.
Another scammer is calling saying they work for Knox County, and they need to update their information.
Authorities say your bank or legitimate company will never call you and ask for your personal information or how much money you have.
If you get a call that seems suspicious, simply hang up the phone.
