Vincennes Water Utilities announced Friday afternoon a BOIL ORDER has been issued out of abundance of caution for all Vincennes Water Utilities customers and Knox County Water customers until at least Tuesday April 21st.
Officials say the BOIL ORDER was issued due to a high E. Coli laboratory result detected during routine water quality testing.
Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with public health guidance, residents and businesses are advised to:
* Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute before:
* Drinking
* Cooking or food preparation
* Making ice
* Brushing teeth
* Washing dishes
* Alternatively, use bottled water for consumption and food preparation.
Additional Guidance
* Water used for bathing or laundry is generally safe; however, avoid swallowing water while bathing.
* Individuals with compromised immune systems, the elderly, and infants should take extra precautions.
* Restaurants, healthcare facilities, and food service establishments must follow Indiana Department of Health guidelines for boil water advisories.
Cause and Ongoing Actions
The advisory has been issued following the detection of E. coli bacteria, which may indicate the presence of contamination in the water system. The Vincennes Water Department is:
* Conducting additional testing
* Inspecting system integrity
* Implementing corrective actions as necessary
