September is Suicide Prevention Month.
The numbers are staggering. According to the Centers for Disease Control, nearly 49-thousand people took their own lives in 2024.
That’s more than 130 a day or one suicide every eleven minutes.
Among veterans, the rates are much higher than the civilian population, as much as 50 percent.
The national 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline is there 24 hours a day to offer help.
The three-digit crisis line grew out of earlier suicide hotlines to provide help over the phone or via text message.
