Governor Mike Braun is directing the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor to file a complaint and petition the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to launch an investigation into NIPSCO following widespread and prolonged power outages in Northwest Indiana caused by severe weather that began on August 11th.
The Governor is calling for a thorough review of NIPSCO’s preparation for and response to the recent severe-weather outages.
The review will examine whether the utility properly maintained vegetation and cleared rights-of-way to protect its infrastructure, and whether state-approved funding for infrastructure and reliability improvements was spent as promised.
