A Monroe County judge has ruled a law that took effect last May giving Governor Braun full control of the Indiana University Board of Trustees is constitutional.
The ruling is against a would-be candidate, IU alumnus Justin Vasel, who was one of six eligible nominees for an upcoming vacancy.
Those campaigns were cut short by Braun selecting all nine trustees.
Five of the nine are required to be IU graduates, but the picks are not reviewed by the alumni association.
The ACLU argued alumni of other public universities have more input and filed the lawsuit on Vasel’s behalf.
