Oakland City University has notified the State of Indiana of the possibility of a mass layoff on June 1st.
As required under federal law, the university has filed a WARN Notice with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that it has given workers sixty-days’ notice of an estimated first date of separation of June 1st.
However, the university says on its Facebook page that although current financial conditions are not ideal it does not anticipate having to close and stresses it has no current plans to lay off employees.
There are 110 full-time employees and 57 adjunct and part-time employees that would be affected by the possible layoff.
The university says if layoffs are required, they may become permanent.
