The Martin County Sheriff’s Office says there’s a new scam in which a man calls residents identifying himself as a Duke Energy employee.
He says the intended victim’s account is past due and payment must be made to avoid the service being shut off.
He then asks for payment immediately and has even said he is waiting in the customer’s driveway.
If you receive such a call, hang up and don’t give out any information, make a payment, or purchase gift cards in lieu of a direct payment.
