A total of 100 rural and volunteer fire departments from 54 Indiana counties have been awarded over $453,000 in Volunteer Fire Assistance Capacity awards from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The awards will be used for training, radios, or to purchase necessary firefighting equipment and gear to combat wildland fires.
The grants are administered by the DNR Division of Forestry and made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
In Greene County, the Center-Jackson Township Fire Territory and the Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department each received $4,999 for Water Handling and the Linton Fire Department received $5,000 for safety.
In Knox County, the Edwardsport Volunteer Fire Department and Vincennes Township Fire Department were awarded $5,000 each for safety and the Freelandville Volunteer Fire Department received $5,000 for Water Handling.
In Pike County, the Jefferson Township Fire Department and the Petersburg Fire Department each received $5,000 for safety.
