Knox County officials are asking the public for assistance in finding those responsible for the theft and vandalism of road signs in the county.
They say stealing warning or stop signs and knocking them over can lead to fatal automobile accidents.
Last Tuesday evening in Oaktown, where it’s been an ongoing problem, there was a widespread incident in which six stop signs were stolen and nine knocked down.
Officials say the replacement costs and manpower required are substantial, diverting resources away from essential road maintenance.
If anyone has information, contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
