Governor Mike Braun wants Indiana to lead the nation in nuclear energy, even though the state doesn’t yet have a single nuclear power plant.
On Wednesday, Braun signed six new energy-related bills during a ceremonial event, part of his broader push to “unleash Indiana’s energy production.”
At the center of that plan is the introduction of small modular nuclear reactors, or SMRs.
One of the new laws launches a pilot program to explore building SMRs in Indiana.
Supporters say these compact reactors offer a cleaner, safer, and more cost-effective way to produce energy.
