Greene Co. Man Charged with Murder May Plead Guilty

A Greene County man charged with killing a woman and her son plans to plead guilty, according to his attorney.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Joshua Penick murdered 36-year-old Samantha Jerrell and her 14-year-old son Colton and buried their bodies at Bear Run Mine in Sullivan County.

Their bodies were found in October of 2024.

Penick faces two murder charges, although it’s unclear which charges he will admit to.

A judge scheduled a plea change hearing for Wednesday, July 23rd, with sentencing set for October 1st.

Penick remains presumed innocent unless a court finds him guilty.
