The Knox County Sheriff’s Department arrested a wanted felon early Friday morning during a traffic stop for having an expired license.
Derek Alexander Jones at first gave the deputy misleading information about his identity.
It was later learned he was wanted on a felony warrant out of Lake County.
The expired plate on his vehicle was also not registered to the vehicle.
Authorities say Jones was also found to be in possession of a handgun.
The sheriff’s office says he was convicted of second-degree murder in 2015 and should not have had a gun in his possession.
In addition to the warrant, he is facing charges of Possession of a Handgun by a Serious Violent Felon and Obstruction.
