Indiana Gov. Mike Braun appointed new members to the Indiana University Board of Trustees, citing an “overwhelming” response from interested individuals.
Braun’s decision to appoint new trustees came after receiving full control over the board’s composition through a state budget bill.
The selection of Jim Bopp, an attorney who represented students in a lawsuit against IU’s COVID-19 vaccine policy, was defended by Braun as upholding the First Amendment.
Despite controversy surrounding the removal of elected alumni trustees, Braun expressed confidence in the new appointees’ alignment with IU President Pamela Whitten’s vision for the university.
