On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Reconciliation Bill, which has also been referred to as President Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill.”
The bill, which passed by just one vote (215-214), includes provisions to boost the farmer safety net through both improvements to commodity programs and premium subsidies for crop insurance.
In addition, the bill cut spending for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by $294 billion over 10 years. The majority of those savings, $128.3 billion, would come by requiring states to provide 5-to-25 percent cost share for SNAP benefits.
“The One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivers on the mandate voters gave President Trump and Republicans by stopping tax hikes, reining in spending, investing in rural America, and restoring integrity to programs like SNAP, and I look forward to working with the Senate to get it to the President’s desk,” said Rep. Bill H.R.1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, will now move onto the Senate.
