The Asociación Latinoamericana del Sur de Indiana has decided to cancel Festival Latino 2025, originally scheduled to take place this fall in Dubois County.
The reason? The group says increased immigration enforcement activity in nearby cities, the detainment of individuals without violent criminal records, and reports of deportations without due process have increased the risk for many members of the Latino community.
It says these changes undermine the safe and welcoming environment ALASI strives to create through the festival.
ALASI says that for over a decade, this annual event, welcoming more than 2,000 attendees, has celebrated Latin American culture, music, food, and community unity.
