A man from West Michigan drowned while trying to rescue a girl in a strong current in an Indiana creek.
56-year-old Maximo Disla-Garcia of Wyoming was identified as the victim by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The incident occurred near a suspension bridge in Sugar Creek at Turkey Run State Park in Parke County.
Disla-Garcia was overtaken by the current and did not resurface, while the girl was able to save herself.
His body was recovered later that evening, and an autopsy confirmed his death as an accidental drowning.
