A new Indiana state historical marker commemorating te former Gimbels’ Department Store in Vincennes will be dedicated on Friday, May 16th.
The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony, which will take place at the corner of Second and Main streets in Vincennes at 12 p.m.
Parking will be available along Main Street and other side streets in the area.
The building was destroyed by fire in 2011.
The new historical marker examines Jewish history and contributions to the state and highlights a cultural and economic retail giant that had its roots in Vincennes.
It is sponsored by the Indiana Jewish Historical Society, Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation, Vincennes Historical and Antiquarian Society, and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and is supported by the City of Vincennes, which helped install the marker.
