Governor Mike Braun has signed two bills creating “Hailey’s Law,” named for 17-year-old Hailey Buzbee from Fishers who disappeared in January and was later found dead in Ohio.
The new law centers around social media protection for minors and preventing child exploitation.
It also expands Indiana’s Silver Alert program to missing children and creates a new crime for distributing child sex abuse material.
Beau Buzbee, the girl’s father, says the new law is a “good first step,” but says more work needs to happen with education in schools on grooming and modern predators.
