Annual black lung cancer screenings are beginning again this month in America’s coal mining communities.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is sending its mobile health units to Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio through May.
Black lung disease is incurable and is caused by breathing in coal mine dust.
But NIOSH says if caught early, severe breathing impairment can be prevented.
Screenings are free, they’re confidential and take just 30-minutes.
