The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about another telephone scam.
This time they are calling teachers at work saying they are with the Sheriff’s Office.
They are telling the intended victim that they have missed jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest.
To “resolve” the matter and avoid jail time, the caller demands immediate payment through digital payment apps, prepaid gift cards, or wire transfers.
The scammers are using caller ID spoofing technology to make the call appear as though it is coming directly from the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office reminds the public that neither law enforcement nor court officials will never call you on the phone and demand money.
