The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public about a scam in which the caller spoofs the department’s phone number and asks the intended victim to pay a bond.
In these calls, individuals are instructed to purchase various cryptocurrencies or gift cards and provide them to the caller.
The sheriff’s office says it will never call and ask you to pay a bond over the telephone.
Bond payments are only accepted in cash at the sheriff’s department.
If you receive a call that appears to be from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, and you are not sure of the validity of the call, simply hang up and contact the sheriff’s department.
