Indiana Governor Mike Braun is calling a special session to redraw the state’s congressional maps.
The White House has lobbied for the Hoosier state to redraw its congressional lines, with Vice President Vance traveling to the state twice and President Trump speaking with lawmakers directly about redistricting earlier this month.
Braun issued a statement on Monday announcing, “a special legislative session to protect Hoosiers from efforts in other states that seek to diminish their voice in Washington and ensure their representation in Congress is fair.”
Texas and Missouri Republicans have already passed new maps to add additional opportunities ahead of the midterms, while California Democrats are also working on their own redistricting efforts to combat their GOP counterparts.
Indiana Senate Democrats are strongly condemning Governor Mike Braun’s call for a special session on redistricting, calling the move a “national disgrace.”
Senate Democratic Leader Shelli Yoder accused the Governor of convening an “illegitimate session to rig Indiana’s congressional maps.”
Yoder stated, “This is not democracy, this is desperation.”
