Indiana’s foster care system has grown from 2023 to 2024 by 13%, while the national average is down 3%.
The Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System says Indiana had nearly 12-thousand children in foster care in 2024 and new entries were up by 30% from 2023 to 2024.
Indiana Department of Child Services Director Adam Krupp says 2023 was a historic low for the Hoosier state and says that “generated a lot of questions.”
