Ash from the September 6th PBTT chemical fire still covers the grounds of the Warrick County Humane Society, preventing animals from returning.
The electroplating plant uses chemicals including magnesium, aluminum oxide, and acid aerosols.
The EPA has cleaned hard surfaces, but the grounds remain contaminated.
State officials say PBTT’s cleanup contractor will handle both the current shelter and a nearby site where a new, larger facility is under construction.
That project is delayed with no new timeline.
Meanwhile, some of the 70 evacuated animals have found permanent homes with their foster families.
