Of the 47 million Americans who are food insecure, 17 million of those are children. And while hunger is a problem in every part of the United States, it’s more common in rural areas.
Earlier this summer the National Association of Farm Broadcasting announced a partnership with Feeding America to bring attention to the crisis of hunger in rural America.
“I don’t think in the history of NAFB, in our 80 plus years that we have ever put all of our radio stations together, all of our TV and put are complete focus toward any one issue. And what could be a bigger issue than hunger, especially as we’re talking about agriculture. It allows us as well to prove our worth. We want to show that NAFB when it bands together, and farmer radio and farm broadcast, that we can move the needle,” said Jeff Nalley, President of NAFB. “There are hungry kids and there are hungry people and I’ll just focus briefly here on children. One out of five is food insecure but 90% of those kids live in rural America. This is our issue as we serve Rural America.”
The NAFB Hunger campaign is designed to help provide food and resources for people facing hunger including those living in rural communities, by directing donors to the Feeding America network of partner food banks.
Linda Nageotte, President of Feeding America said, “Hunger is one of those non-partisan issues where all of us have the opportunity to come together and make a difference for our neighbors, because we care about our community and we know that when everyone is food secure then we can all thrive together.”
Through the dedicated nafbhunger.com website, donations will go directly to support local Feeding America network food banks based on the donor’s zip code.
