The Knox County Health Department has been notified by the state that West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Knox County.
Health officials say that finding the virus in Knox County is not unusual, but this year they say the virus seems to be somewhat more widespread and is being detected earlier than usual.
The West Nile Virus is carried by mosquitoes and humans may contract the illness by being bitten by an infected mosquito.
To prevent getting the virus, you should use mosquito repellant such as DEET and by not being out after the sun goes down or before the sun comes up.
Both Knox County and the City of Vincennes will be spraying areas to decrease mosquito populations.
