A Vincennes tow truck driver is being praised for going the extra mile Wednesday in helping an elderly woman who had run out of gas on South 6th Street near Coyote Road.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says the woman had driven here all the way from Avon, Indiana and appeared to have a mental health crisis.
Although she refused to talk to deputies or EMS on the scene and refused to get out of her car, Troy Jones of Troy’s Towing was able to talk with the woman, who told him her name was Loudena.
Jones convinced her to get out of her car and into his tow truck so he could get her back to Vincennes.
Once back in Vincennes, Jones called his girlfriend to come talk with Loudena to try to keep her calm.
Central Dispatch was able to contact Loudena’s daughter, who lived in the Indianapolis area, and tell her what was going on.
Jones offered to take Loudena back to his residence until her family arrived, since she trusted him.
He eventually towed her car to the Bloomington area to meet her family there.
