As Hoosiers prepare for Fourth of July celebrations, an “Air Quality Action Day” will be in effect Friday for much of central Indiana.
Cities in the alert area include Terre Haute, Brazil, Spencer, Sullivan, Carlisle, Shelburn, and Farmersburg.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has forecast unhealthy levels of ground-level ozone.
The “Air Quality Action Day” means conditions are expected to elevate pollution, potentially impacting public health.
Residents, particularly children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions like asthma, are advised to limit prolonged outdoor exposure.
Officials recommend taking steps to reduce ozone pollution, such as carpooling or using public transportation, and conserving energy.
