State attorneys have sent a request to the Indiana Supreme Court to announce the date for 52-year-old Roy Lee Ward to be executed for raping and killing a teenager in 2001.
If the request is accepted, Ward will be the third person in Indiana since the state resumed executions after a 15-year period.
Joseph Corcoran was executed in December of last year, and Benjamin Ritchie was executed in May of this year.
The state paid more than one-million dollars for four doses of a lethal injection drug, two of which were used for the executions of Corcoran and Ritchie.
