The Knox County Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with federal and state agencies, is launching a major initiative to improve earthquake preparedness across the county slated to begin in June and take roughly 2 weeks to complete.
The collaborative effort will focus on finding and reducing the risks to critical facilities—such as emergency services, schools, and hospitals—in case of an earthquake.
Officials will inspect buildings to understand their structural vulnerabilities and prioritize improvements.
A final report will offer recommendations to strengthen emergency response, improve recovery efforts, and guide mitigation planning.
The results of this project will help guide future safety improvements and give local leaders and residents valuable insight into how to reduce earthquake risks in their neighborhoods.
