The Knox County Commissioners have approved a three-phase project to reallocate space on county property.
In the first phase, the old Knox County Poor Asylum at 28-30 ARC Avenue would be razed and a new Emergency Operations Center constructed there.
Once complete, Central Dispatch, Emergency Operations, and the County Coroner’s office will be located in the new facility.
The next phase involves the demolition of the former Community Corrections Center across from the courthouse.
It would be replaced with a new Judicial Center, to house the County’s courts and the County Veterans’ office.
The old sheriff’s department building at 8th and Broadway that currently houses the Probation Department will stay standing.
The final phase involves about 150-thousand dollars in renovations to the Knox County Courthouse,
A planning and site study will get underway soon.
No timeline has been set for any of the phases.
