AG Rokita Sues East Chicago Over State’s Sanctuary Cities Ban

The city of East Chicago is being sued by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita for violating the state’s sanctuary cities ban.

Rokita says the city violated the law with their 2017 ordinance.

The city code says police are barred from requesting information about someone’s citizenship or immigration status; detaining someone based on an immigration detainer or administrative warrant; and working with federal agencies on immigration enforcement operations.
