The Posey County Sheriff’s Office says a mother from Mt. Vernon faces battery charges after two of her children were found with “significant bruising” on their faces.
Posey County Sheriff’s deputies were called Wednesday to a home on East Mackey Ferry Road by a case manager with the Indiana Department of Child Services.
The case manager told deputies that they were investigating possible physical abuse on three kids under the age of five.
When deputies arrived, they found “significant bruising” on the faces of two of the three children at the home.
The sheriff’s office says they were able to determine that the bruises were caused by the children’s mother, 27-year-old Darbie Prial.
Prial was arrested and charged with two counts of Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury to a Child Less Than 14 Years of Age and one count of Battery Causing Injury to a Child Less Than 14.
The three children, ages 4, 2, and 8 months, were taken into the care of the Indiana Department of Child Services.
The sheriff’s office said the children will be checked for injuries at a local hospital.
Prial was being held Thursday in the Posey County Jail.
