A Columbus police officer has been arrested.
Indiana State Police say back in June, Officer John Velten arrested a man who was part of a fight.
While that man was handcuffed in the back of the police car, he started to hit his head against the seat.
That’s when Velten punched the man, injuring him.
ISP started an investigation, and Velten was charged with battery and official misconduct.
On Tuesday morning, Velten turned himself in, and ISP says he has been fully cooperative.
As of now, Velten is still with the Columbus Police Department, in a non-law enforcement position.
