A southern Indiana man has been sentenced for murdering and eating parts of his ex-girlfriend.
The judge formally sentenced Joseph Oberhensley to life in prison for the 2014 murder of Tammy Jo Blanton.
His attorneys plan to appeal the judge’s decision.
The death penalty was withdrawn from the case last year when prosecutors argued that Oberhansley’s mental health could pose the possibility of a reversal in the case.
Oberhansley’s first trial was declared a mistrial in 2019 after a juror brought up restricted information.
