The Indiana Arts Commission has approved funding for two coming events next year in Vincennes. The first is a three-thousand dollar grant for “Sounds They Left Behind; Music from the Old World in Indiana’s New France.” The event will be held in April of next year at the State Historic Sites near Vincennes University.
The event will feature French music from the colonial era, along with folk songs from Old Vincennes. The musicians will use period Baroque instruments– including Baroque flute, cello, and violin.
The other grant is for three thousand dollars for Fernando Lozano’s presentation of “Save for the Future.” The event is planned for next month, and also at the State Historic Sites. Lozano plans to educate Knox County’s middle schoolers on the history and architecture of the Indiana Territory Capitol building, also known as the “Red House.” Participants will make a replica of the “Red House”; it will also serve as a piggy bank.
Overall, the Indiana Arts Commission approved 72 projects, with a total grant amount over 208-thousand dollars. More Information– and a list of the winners– is available here:
