Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker has signed a new law to give millions of Illinoisans relief from high interest rates on their debt.
The Consumer Fairness Act lowers post-judgment interest rates on consumer debt and reduces the amount of time the debt can be collected.
Pritzker says they want to help people struggling to pay off what they owe.
According to the Heartland Alliance, one in three Illinoisans are in the debt collection process.
