South Bend Family’s Lawyer Says Cruise Death Was Preventable

The lawyer for the family of a South Bend police officer who lost a child on a Caribbean cruise says the ship is to blame for the little girl’s death.

Attorney Michael Winkleman says Chloe Wiegand’s grandfather allowed her to lean against a window on the ship, but that window was open.

The one-year-old died when she fell out of the window.

The original report was that the grandfather lost his grip on the little girl.

Winkleman says the cruise ship should have never had windows that can open in a place where kids can play.
