West Nile Confirmed in Indiana

The West Nile Virus has now been found in mosquito pools in four locations in Indiana so far this summer.

Taryn Stevens with the Indiana State Department of Health says there were 35 human West Nile cases in Indiana last year.

She says it only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to cause a severe illness.

West Nile virus can cause West Nile fever, which can develop into a more severe form of the disease that affects the nervous system.

That can lead to inflammation in the brain and spinal cord, muscle paralysis or even death.
